چکیده
In this investigation, two methods for characterizing membrane surface potential are investigated. Results from atomic force microscopy (AFM) analyses are compared with streaming potential measurements. In calculating surface potential from AFM force measurements, assumptions of constant charge and constant potential were both considered for modeling electrostatic interactions. For a ceramic mica surface, the constant charge assumption was found to be most appropriate while for a polymeric membrane surface, the constant potential assumption provided results t d m t ©

Nanofiltration Membranes Synthesized from Polyethyleneimine for Removal of MgSO4 from Aqueous Solution (RESEARCH NOTE)
A novel work was performed for fabrication and modification of composite nanofiltration (NF) membrane by polymerization reaction between polyethyleneimine (PEI) and triphthaloyldechloride (TPC). the main purpose of this work was water treatment. polysulfone was applied as a main polymer of substrate. The result of reaction between PEI and TPC would be formation of polyamide layer on the membran...

In this paper, vertical scanning interferometry (VSI) and atomic force microscopy (AFM) were used to characterize the topography of several nanofiltration and reverse osmosis membrane surfaces. Comparing roughness results from the two different characterization techniques revealed u f o a m ©
متن کاملCharacterizing NF and RO membrane surface heterogeneity using chemical force microscopy
Chemical force microscopy (CFM) was used to characterize the chemical heterogeneity of two commercially available nanofiltration and reverse osmosis membranes. CFM probes were modified with three different terminal functionalities: methyl (CH3), carboxyl (COOH), and hydroxyl (OH). Chemically distinct information about the membrane surfaces was deduced based on differences in adhesion between th...
متن کاملA physical impact of organic fouling layers on bacterial adhesion during nanofiltration.
Organic conditioning films have been shown to alter properties of surfaces, such as hydrophobicity and surface free energy. Furthermore, initial bacterial adhesion has been shown to depend on the conditioning film surface properties as opposed to the properties of the virgin surface. For the particular case of nanofiltration membranes under permeate flux conditions, however, the conditioning fi...
متن کاملImproved antifouling properties of polyamide nanofiltration membranes by reducing the density of surface carboxyl groups.
Carboxyls are inherent functional groups of thin-film composite polyamide nanofiltration (NF) membranes, which may play a role in membrane performance and fouling. Their surface presence is attributed to incomplete reaction of acyl chloride monomers during the membrane active layer synthesis by interfacial polymerization. In order to unravel the effect of carboxyl group density on organic fouli...
